This violin has two labels: "March H.P. Smith" & "March 25, 1898, H.P. Smith Owner Brouno". It is some what of a mystery to determine if this violin was actually made by H.P. Smith in the US or if it is actually German made. H.P. Smith was a classically trained maker and wrote a book on violin making. Aspects of the instrument point in both directions. No corner blocks, small button, color/finish, two piece maple fingerboard. Recently fitted with Peghed geared violin tuners that work great. The pegbox has had bushing installed to facilitate the new tuners. No cracks. There is a chip on the scroll. All in all a great old-timey fiddle! $525.
