Pochettes/Dancing Master kits were used in the 18th and 19th centuries. Also referred to as pocket fiddles due to their size and proportions that allowed these fiddles to be stored inside a coat pocket.

Jeff Menzies Modern Style 3 String Akonting
This is truly a modern interpretation of a West African akonting. Typically an akonting would have three semi fixed strings tied onto the neck. This banjo/akonting related instrument has three well fit and very functional ebony violin pegs allowing for precision tuning. The neck narrow neck is made of white oak. The head is goatskin. The bridge is made of old growth southern pine. The tail piece and nut are made of cow bone. The three strings are nylon Aquilas. What fun it is to play. Available as a custom order.
Jeff Menzies Minstrel Swell Neck Banjo
This 26" scale minstrel style banjo truly follows the aesthetics of the antebellum banjos of the past. The neck on this banjo is made of presentation western figured walnut, a highly prized wood often used in rifles. The rim is made of maple and the hardware is handmade from brass. Bone has been used for both the tail piece and nut. The friction style ebony violin pegs are properly fit and turn smoothly. Currently set up with gut strings that are ideally tuned to D or E. Truly a players instrument that is ideal for minstrel stroke style but by far limited to it.
